Katy Perry Returns to Earth After Historic Space Mission

Pop star Katy Perry has made it back to Earth safely after an incredible ride beyond the planet’s atmosphere. The artist was among Blue Origin’s first all-female space team, which flew above the Kármán line, the globally accepted edge of space.

Blue Origin Spaceflight

Katy Perry and five other successful women—Lauren Sánchez, Gayle King, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn—made the suborbital flight on Jeff Bezos’ New Shepard rocket. The flight took about 11 minutes, during which the crew felt weightlessness and stunning vistas of Earth.

The New Shepard rocket propelled by BE-3 PM launched at Blue Origin’s Launch Site One in Texas. Within minutes, the rocket reached speeds of more than 2,000 miles per hour (3,200 km/h)—close to twice the speed of sound. The capsule detached from the booster, and three to four minutes of weightlessness were experienced by the crew before they began descending.

After a safe landing in Texas, Katy Perry was visibly shaken by the experience. She kissed the ground when she stepped out of the capsule, clutching a daisy, a gesture in memory of her daughter, Daisy Bloom. The singer called the experience “the highest high” and spoke highly of the opportunity.

On board, Katy Perry was said to have sung Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World”, opting instead to sing about the beauty of the planet rather than one of her own songs. Her crew member Gayle King revealed that the experience was profoundly emotional, affirming the significance of togetherness among humans.

A New Era for Space Tourism

This mission is a historic milestone in space tourism, demonstrating the possibilities of more inclusive and diverse space travel. With Perry on board, the event has gained international attention, stirring dreams in millions of people beyond the stars.

As Katy Perry herself said, “You never know how much love is inside of you until the day you launch“. Her story is a compelling reminder that the sky is not the limit—it’s just the beginning.
