Paraguayan Swimmer Luana Alonso Asked to Leave Olympic Village in Paris

Glamorous Olympic swimmer removed from the Athletes’ Village due to ‘inappropriate conduct’

Paris, France – August 5, 2024

Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso, known for her glamorous appearance, has been removed from the Athletes’ Village during the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 20-year-old athlete was accused of creating an “inappropriate atmosphere” within Team Paraguay due to her choice of attire and socializing with other athletes.

Alonso, who competed in the 100m butterfly event, failed to qualify for the semi-finals, finishing in sixth place. Despite her loss, she remained in the Athletes’ Village, a venue where competitors can socialize, eat, and train together until the end of the Games.

However, her presence was reportedly causing a distraction for her teammates still competing. Paraguayan officials decided to banish her from mixing with other team members and asked her to leave the shared accommodation.

In a statement, the general manager of the Paraguay team, Larissa Schaerer, claimed that Alonso’s presence had an “inappropriate effect” on the team. Schaerer said, “Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay. We thank her for proceeding as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the Athletes’ Village.”

According to reports, Alonso chose to stay in a hotel in Paris and was seen visiting high-end boutiques and restaurants. She also made a trip to Disneyland Paris, posing with Mickey Mouse ears in front of the Magic Kingdom castle.

Alonso took to Instagram to announce her retirement from swimming following her exit from the Games. She wrote, “It’s official now! I’m retiring from swimming. Thank you all so much for the support! Sorry, Paraguay. I only have to thank you!”

In another post, she expressed her love for the sport, saying, “Swimming: thank you for allowing me to dream. You taught me to fight, to try, perseverance, sacrifice, discipline, and many more.”

The young swimmer, who also competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, has since returned to the US, where she is studying at a university in Texas.

This incident follows another recent controversy at the Paris Games involving model Chrissy Teigen, who was criticized for her choice of attire, a skimpy two-piece ensemble, during the Opening Ceremonies.

As the Olympics continue, the question arises: What constitutes “inappropriate conduct,” and how should it be addressed within the context of the world’s largest sporting event? The discussion surrounding these incidents is sure to continue as athletes and attendees navigate the balance between personal expression and adhering to expectations.
