What I most love about being a travel journalist is the ever-changing mix of environments in which I find myself. Over many years of writing Conde Nast Traveler’s Room with a View page and the popular, Where Are You? contest essay, I certainly know ultra-luxe. But I can be just as happy hauling myself up a volcano-like on the Cape Verdean island. My travel chops started early.
